Benissa the great unknown on the Costa Blanca
Benisssa is undoubtedly the great unknown of the populations of the Marina Alta. There is a popular saying that says; ,,Calpe has the Rock but Benissa has the views.,,
Continuing with the series of different posts on the populations that surround us and in order to extend and briefly reveal some of their characteristics, we continue with Benissa, divided into two nuclei; On the one hand, the municipality with all the services of the City Hall, schools, supermarkets, banks, restaurants, etc. And Benissa Costa full of incredible coves and cliffs with spectacular villas and houses dotting its beautiful landscape, where mountains, forests and sea mix.
The municipal term has a surface with a very rectangular and square shape with very heterogeneous orography. From the coast, made up mostly of small coves and cliffs, to mountainous areas, made up of the Oltá, La Solana, Malla Verda and the most prominent mountains, the Sierra de Bernia
Through the N-332 national road which passes through the city center, it connects it with Spain and Europe with the AP-7 motorway with the Benissa exit.
Discoveries of prehistoric activity, as well as coins, amphoras, etc. It indicates that Romans were in these lands. The origin of the place name Benisa is Arabic, confirming the existence of a nucleus of Arab population.
All this makes this population a mixture of ideas and cultures that is reflected in the character of its people, accustomed to the union of sister nations.
Benisa has 13,808 inhabitants, of which 44.5% is foreign, these come largely from countries of the European Union, mainly from Germany and the United Kingdom.
The main economic activity, which was once agriculture, is currently the tourism-based service sector, it also has several industrial estates with numerous companies from different fields.
The climate of Benissa is practically the same as in all the towns of the Marina Alta: Little cold and mild in winter, little rain during the year and hot in summer.
From 04/22/2016 - 05/01/2016: They are celebrated on the fourth Sunday of April, in honor of the Puríssima Xiqueta, patron saint of the municipality.
